조에닉 프랑스 "니키" 후아니테(Joenic France "Nicky" Juanite)는 필리핀 출신의 작곡가, 싱어송라이터, 멀티 인스트루멘털리스트, 공연 기획자이자 문화예술 활동가로 현재 대한민국에서 활동하고 있다.

 

 

니키는 필리핀대학교(University of the Philippines) 음악대학에서 음악을 공부하며 필리핀 쿨린탕(Kulintang), 통갈리(Tongali), 중국 고쟁(Guzheng), 인도네시아 가믈란(Gamelan), 일본 고토(Koto), 한국 사물놀이, 인도 시타르(Sitar) 등 다양한 아시아 전통음악을 익혔다. 이러한 경험은 그녀만의 독창적인 음악 세계와 다문화 예술 협업에 대한 관심의 기반이 되었다.

 

 

2016년 대한민국 정부초청장학금(GKS) 수혜자로 선발되어 서울대학교 국악과 작곡 전공에서 학사 과정을 마쳤으며, 이후 한국예술종합학교(K-Arts) 전통예술원에서 ASEAN-ROK Music Scholarship(AMA) 장학생으로 국악작곡 석사 학위를 취득하였다. 그녀의 작품 활동은 한국, 필리핀, 그리고 동남아시아 전통음악의 요소를 현대적인 작곡 기법과 융합하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.

 

 

 

니키의 작품은 한국, 태국, 일본 등 다양한 국가에서 연주되었으며, 2019년에는 태국에서 개최된 ASEAN Youth Ensemble 국제 심포지엄에서 작품 「ConFusion: Risk」가 소개되어 국제적인 주목을 받았다. 또한 2021년 영국 국제 영화음악 작곡 콩쿠르에서 준결승에 진출하며 영상음악 분야에서도 역량을 인정받았다.

 

 

작곡가로서의 활동뿐 아니라 문화예술 기획자로서도 활발히 활동하고 있다. 서울 이태원을 중심으로 다양한 공연과 문화교류 프로젝트를 기획하며 국내외 예술가들이 서로 연결되고 협력할 수 있는 장을 만들어가고 있다. 특히 음악과 공동체의 가치를 연결하는 의미 있는 프로젝트를 지속적으로 추진하고 있다.

 

 

또한 창작 뮤지컬 「When an Empath Meets a Narcissist」의 작가이자 프로듀서로 활동하였으며, 해당 작품은 Korea Times에 소개되어 공감, 인간관계, 정서적 회복에 대한 메시지를 예술적으로 풀어냈다는 평가를 받았다.

현재 니키는 싱어송라이터로서도 꾸준히 활동하며, 인간관계, 성장, 치유, 그리고 삶의 다양한 감정을 담은 음악을 선보이고 있다. 앞으로 음악이 개인과 사회에 미치는 긍정적인 영향을 연구하기 위해 음악치료(Music Therapy) 분야의 박사과정 진학을 준비하고 있으며, 예술과 치유를 연결하는 새로운 가능성을 탐구하고 있다.

Joenic France "Nicky" Juanite is a Filipino singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, event organizer, and cultural arts advocate based in South Korea.

 

Raised in the Philippines, Nicky's musical journey began at the College of Music of the University of the Philippines, where she immersed herself in diverse Asian musical traditions and studied instruments including the Philippine Kulintang and Tongali, Chinese Guzheng, Indonesian Gamelan, Japanese Koto, Korean Samulnori, Indian Sitar, Afro-Latin ensembles, and Brazilian Batucada. This foundation shaped her distinctive artistic voice and passion for intercultural collaboration.

 

In 2016, she was awarded the prestigious Korean Government Scholarship Program (GKS), allowing her to pursue Korean Music Composition at Seoul National University. She later completed her Master's degree in Korean Music Composition at Korea National University of Arts under the ASEAN-ROK Music Scholarship (AMA). Her academic and creative work has focused on bridging traditional Korean, Philippine, and Southeast Asian musical traditions through contemporary composition.

 

As a composer, Nicky's works have been presented internationally across South Korea, Thailand, and Japan. Her composition ConFusion: Risk received international recognition during the International Symposium of the ASEAN Youth Ensemble in Thailand, where she represented both the Philippines and South Korea. In 2021, she was selected as a semi-finalist in a United Kingdom film music composition competition, further expanding her work into cinematic and multimedia scoring.

 

Beyond composition, Nicky is deeply committed to building artistic communities. She has organized numerous multicultural concerts, educational programs, and creative exchange projects that connect artists from diverse backgrounds. She continues to be active in Seoul's independent arts scene, particularly in Itaewon, where she develops events that foster meaningful connections between music, culture, and society.

 

As a theatre creator, she wrote and produced the musical When an Empath Meets a Narcissist, a work exploring emotional resilience and human relationships. The production received recognition from Korea Times and contributed to conversations surrounding empathy, mental well-being, and interpersonal dynamics through the performing arts.

Alongside her work as a composer and organizer, Nicky performs regularly as a singer-songwriter, creating heartfelt music that explores identity, connection, healing, and the complexities of human experience. Looking ahead, she plans to pursue doctoral studies in Music Therapy, continuing her mission to explore the transformative power of music in both artistic and therapeutic contexts.
